This one is cheesy

I know I should be more vigilant about posting, but I just can't. Most of the time it's because I have just read Ashley Mitchell's blog and I could never write anything like that. But I have the house to myself for a few moments (which almost never happens) so I thought I'd reach out to all of you in the world wide web.

This past week was my and Adam's first anniversary. We have had the most wonderful year and it was so fun to reflect on it BUT this little story about us takes the cake. In our effort to build traditions, we decided to go with traditional wedding gifts and for a first anniversary, the gift is paper. I was so excited because Adam has been wanting to take drawing classes for quite some time now. So I went to Hobby Lobby and bought him a sketch book, a charcoal book and a huge assortment of pencils, pens and erasers. Then I went to the art school in the cultural district and purchased some basic drawing classes. So on our anniversary, Adam and I sit down to open our presents and we can't decide who opens first so we resolve our issue in the most grown-up and logical manner we can: paper rock scissors. I have a feeling that this simple little game could save a ton of marriages. So I won (of course because Adam always throws paper first) and he had to open first. So he opens his present and starts laughing!!! I wasn't sure how to react, and my feelings weren't hurt, but I had no idea why he was laughing. So I opened my gift and it was: watercolor paper; a full set of watercolor tubes, cakes, and pencils; an easel and a watercolor book! I know it's cheesy, but it was so sweet! And to top it off, the lessons I purchased are the first in a line of classes that lead up to watercolor. This is great for both of us because we need a non-work related hobby that we can do together, and now we have one. We also ate our cake, which was dry but the icing was still curiously delicious. And oh yeah, Adam got me "The Officlal Paper Rock Scissors Strategy Guide." And I think that book is serious.

True Colors Test

Go to this address to take the true colors test. It is almost as good as the one I took. The full test is copyrighted material, but I took this one and my results were the same. Let me know what color you are! I can give you more info about each color because the site doesn't give too much.

I"m a green

Well ladies and gentlemen, if you have never encountered the "True Colors" personality test, you have truly missed the best in identifying personality types. There are only four basic types of personalities and the tests matches these with a color. I know there are multiple tests in the world, but this test has been the most telling.

So, for those of you who know me and know the test I'm a GREEN gold blue orange, which means I am...

independent, global, an abstract thinker, logical, rational, practical and a hard worker (work is play). I also thrive on concepts and ideas (more than carrying them out), I respond positively to praise of my competence, I respect and value competence in others, I hate repetition and I need to be challenged. People often think I am ignoring them or being rude when I am interrupted while working but I'm just in work mode. I respond negatively to criticism and value perfection. In love, I am practical and logical, just like every other area of life. (I could go on and on, but I'll stop).

Doesn't this sound just like me?

The other colors are pretty interesting to read about also. For example, orange (my lowest color) is the fun-loving, spontaneous and playful person. NOT ME. Blue is a relational person who values people's feelings more than anything else. NOT ME AGAIN. Anyway, this presentation was about 3 hours long. but I'd like to know what some of my friends are, so if you know, please comment. The test is fun, but it is not absolute, but it is nice to know that I am not the only person in the world who struggles with working too much or not always meeting the needs of people I love. I guess we are all a work in progress, and were it not for the grace of God, I'd be a lot worse off.

In other news, I found a very old cd case this weekend. CDs from back in the day when I was a teen. There is some tenacious love of music in your teens that is difficult to maintain as we get older (at least for me). When we are younger, we have so little that defines us, and most teenagers do it with music. Logical choice since there are so many genres and it is so accessible. But I played a ton of this music as my husband and I were driving around and it made me feel good. Five Iron Frenzy, Jennifer Knapp (what happened to her?), John Reuben, Third Day, Audio A, Ben Harper, Radiohead and the most awesome mix cd of punk covers! So for the next few weeks, I will be dropping out of modern music and rockin the oldies. Wanna ride with me?

I killed some animals today...

That's right, Adam and I went striper fishing in Lake Texoma (I asked the guide to stay more to the "Tex" than "Oma" side). It wasn't particularly eventful, but it was only my second time to officially go fishing and I caught at least 10 fish! We got up at 4:45am (ugh) drove to the middle of nowhere Texas and were fishing by 6:30. I wonder what our guide thought when he saw us drive up in our yuppie hybrid? We caught our limit of 20+inchers and had to throw all the big ones back after that. Adam caught the biggest fish, which was only 1/2 inch bigger than mine! We fished for a few hours and I almost passed out when I pulled up my bait (shad) and the tail had been bitten off and its guts were pouring from the back of its body. Our guide saw my face, and being the sensitive fisherman that he was, he asked "Do you want to take him to the hospital?" Hardy har har. We caught our limit (10 each) and headed back to the dock. He filleted all 22 fish (did we keep some extra...?) in about 3 minutes. His wife was in there helping tear those fish apart. Uh uh, not me. I didn't touch one fish all day. Now we have a freezer full of fish (anyone in driving distance want some?) and as for me, my favorite part was the boat ride.
